Imagine the scene. It is 06:45 in the morning, it is dark and I am trying to get around the house as quietely as possible so as not to wake my sleeping husband. (He had mentioned on more than one occasion "you do make a lot of noise - could you not use the hair dryer in a the other room"). I creep out of the bedroom and attempt to descend the stairs without putting the light on (first mistake). I'm half way down the stairs and I trip up and fall. I am still not trying to make a sound (but I do - you never know Tom might hear me and pop out to help!) - he didnt. I hobble into the kitchen (still without the light on - if the fall hadnt woken Tom, then I didnt want to switch the light on !). At this stage, I feel sick, I cant eat anything (I musnt be well!). I sit on a chair for about 10 minutes then feel a bit better, I decide I to drive to work (second mistake). 45 minutes later I arrive at work. I dont feel too bad. I get out of the car - aghhhhhhh. I cant walk. I hop up the stairs (using my good leg, the one attached to my arthritic hip!) and sit on my chair. I am in a real quandry, should I go home? Should I go to the local doctor? I do neither and spend the rest of the day agony. The only way to get around the office is to use my chair and I can only go backwards ! The kitchen is out of bounds as is the toilet (its downstairs .... dont ask!). The good news - I do eventually manage to get home, hobble into the house and was greeted with '"what was all that noise this morning" , I told him I had fallen down the stairs, Tom said " can you fall down the stairs a little bit quieter next time" ! (I feel it is a little improper of me to repeat my response).
I did go to see my GP and he said "that looks painful and what a funny colour"(it was black and I do mean black). Off to the hospital for an x-ray. Good news, nothing broken, bad news, soft tissue damage, which will take longer to repair than if I had broken a bone.
Moral of the story ....... make as much noise as you like when you get up in the morning !
